One Last Coat

We are inches…hours…twenty last brush strokes…one last push away from completing our master bedroom.

And by that I mean we have the walls and ceilings painted, trim hung and painted, closet installed and painted…

Still missing the closet door, hanging bed, curtains, makeup desk, etc etc etc.

Those are details…the rest is sweet glorious PROGRESS.

We started this master bedroom project on January 1st to start off the New Year with a bang. How romantic the day after you get engaged to be ripping out old horsehair plaster;) It evolved into demoing the office and part of the hallway…redesigning closets…adding a hall linen closet…rewiring the entire upstairs…replacing windows and removing midget windows…and giving this place a face lift. And here we are on the verge of April (according to the calendar, certainly not the weather) and we can almost check off one more room of the house.

We are behind our self-proclaimed schedule, on par with budget and still speaking. I'd say that's an accomplishment in itself.

Here is an idea of how we've spent our days and nights this winter…

The old "Wooden Wife": does a great job holding up sheet rock for ceilings

Our favorite part of sheet rocking: slanted ceilings
 New Closets
 Jail cell
Installing the first of the walls
 Midget window...
 That's a big drill
 No more midget window
 Notice the snow
My handsome fiancé post sheet rocking
 Just a start
 Week long nightly activity
Framing up and ready for sheet rock in the office
Removing the midget window and replacing the main window in the office
Installing new heaters and re-piping a lot of the upstairs
 BEFORE:
Mustard yellow wing chairs
AFTER:
A BIG THANK YOU to my amazing godmother who got our chairs recovered as a wedding gift. These wing chairs were her parents and she gave them to us when we moved into our house.
 Making Plans
Andrew spent a lot of time at his drafting table figuring out the best fit for our mini walk-in closet.
 Office Closet
 Office ready to be mudded
BEFORE:
Lovely sponge painted yellow walls, textured ceilings, old drafty window and scratched up floors
 AFTER:
No more textured ceilings, fake wood paneling, dark floors, drafty window or midget window

BEFORE:
1/2 a closet for one person
 AFTER:
Spacious closet and future "jewelry/makeup area"
Sherwin Williams "Eider White" walls and "Pure White" trim
 Installing the shelving unit
 Her Side
 His Side
Note to Self: DO NOT install closets WITHOUT sanding and priming beforehand.
This task is a biatch.
Beautiful morning walk in the neighborhood.
Hopefully the next time you stop by, there will be furniture in the master bedroom and the office will be in the process of getting "one last coat".  Cheers to the first signs of spring - birds.

  1. Maria, I know how much work this has been but the results look wonderful! It was probably a good thing to have a big project like this to help keep you occupied during this miserable winter! I love the chairs that Marie had recovered for you. I like to think about Mr. and Mrs. Barte sitting in them and chatting together. Maybe Mrs. Barte was dreaming up all the beautiful things that she painted for the Sunshine Circle bazaar. We are lucky to have quite a few of her Christmas ornaments, a wall plaques, and the sweet Santa train. They are treasures!
